In American folklore, Mothman was a creature that was sighted numerous times around 1966 to 1967 in the vicinity of a small town (Point Pleasant) in West Virginia. Mothman was a humanoid creature; eyewitnesses say it was large, black and had red glowing eyes. Some people saw it standing at the side of the road near a TNT area, the site of a former World War II munitions plant. Other witnesses described Mothman as a 'slender, muscular man' about seven feet tall with white wings. Despite its insectoid name, the original sightings of the creature described avian features.
