In the first 48 hours of a blackout, people burn through 95% of their supplies, especially when they lose refrigeration. In your prepping, have you considered the rather obvious possibility that the power may be out for days, weeks or months? What will you do with all that pasta and rice if you can't cook? Do you have alternative cooking methods available? What about ready-to-eat food? You can go for weeks without food, but only days without water – have you prepared water storage? Do you have items that are small and highly desired during an emergency for bartering? Do you have communication and information systems ready so you aren't running blind?
